Azores · A trip for two
Both versions are the same trip at heart: settle into Octant Ponta Delgada on the harbor, then move east to Octant Furnas in the thermal valley — two hotels, spa at each, and long stretches of downtime. The only thing that changes is one extra night in the city, which turns into a relaxed first day and a second unhurried excursion day. More nights here means more space around the few things we do, not a busier schedule.
Applies to the Ponta Delgada stay — more nights there stretches the benefit a little further. Usually requires booking through the card's hotel program, so confirm the channel so the perks apply.
Flights price about the same either way, so the real difference is a single mid-tier city night (softened by the Chase credit). Both are genuinely relaxed; the sixth night adds slack, not stops.
Sleep west, then east — and play all along the line. The two ringed markers are the hotels; the dotted arc is the one move between them. Everything else is an easy day out from whichever base you're at.
The twin crater lakes and the ridge viewpoint — the one western landscape worth a morning.
Ochre garden pool, the hot springs at Dona Beija, and the volcano-cooked cozido.
At the Octant Furnas spa — the centerpiece of the slow second half.
Land mid-morning, ease into Ponta Delgada's old town, and unwind at the Octant's rooftop pool and spa. Nothing on the schedule.
The twin blue-and-green crater lakes and the ridge viewpoint. The one big landscape day.
Lagoa do Fogo and the warm forest pools at Caldeira Velha — at whatever pace feels right, or not at all.
Tea at Gorreana on the way to Furnas, then settle into the thermal valley and the ochre pool at Terra Nostra.
The dramatic Nordeste coast if curiosity strikes — otherwise just the hot springs and gardens.
The hot pools at Dona Beija, the cozido lunch, and the couples massage. Nowhere to be.
An easy morning and the late-morning flight from Ponta Delgada.
