20-27 Aug 2026 · Sao Miguel · Kyle and Marissa

Second honeymoon energy, island edition.

Happy Anniversary to Us. We haven't traveled by ourselves since our honeymoon, and this trip is long overdue. At the same time, it's well worth the wait. 15 years later, our second honeymoon awaits.

What this app does

One journey, not four disconnected planning files.

Start here for the meaning of the trip, move into the day-by-day route, then drop into packing and live travel only when the island gets real.

The trip at a glance

The whole shape should feel like a glide: arrive soft, hit the western drama early, then drift east into the thermal finale.

7day beats including flight night and return
5locked anchors already on the books
2hotel moods: harbor energy, then thermal hush
1goal: make it feel easy while it still feels special
Journey arc

How the week should feel

Start
Recover first, do not perform.Arrival day is for walking the marina, eating slowly, and letting the island come to you instead of trying to win the first day.
Middle
Spend the legs early.Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo carry the dramatic movement while the energy is fresh, with real anchors already holding the pace in place.
Finish
Slide into Furnas. The east side is where the trip softens: whale watch, pools, Poça at dusk, massage, cozido, and the kind of ending that makes going home feel almost rude.
Octant Ponta Delgada harbor-facing stay
Stay 1

Octant Ponta Delgada

The harbor base. Walkable, social, and the right place to start while the body is still resetting from Newark.

Fri-Mon Harbor front Breakfast included
Octant Furnas surrounded by greenery
Stay 2

Octant Furnas

The thermal finish. More inward, more spa-like, and exactly where the trip should go once the scenic work is done.

Mon-Thu Thermal valley Pool-first energy

Anchors worth protecting

These are the trip-makers. Everything else can flex around them.

Sete Cidades crater lakes
Saturday

Sete Cidades kayak

Booked for 13:00. The west-day spine is already decided, which is good because this is one of the island's obvious memory-makers.

Lagoa do Fogo with green ridge lines
Sunday

Caldeira Velha plus Fogo

The island spine, then the thermal forest. Scenic and tactile in the same day without over-complicating it.

Warm thermal pool in lush surroundings
Finale

Massage, Happy Cows, Terra Nostra

The last full day landed as the trip's gentle finale: slow morning, spa, Tony's lunch, farm magic, Terra Nostra dinner, and one last hot tub dip.

Pack section

Pack for the trip you actually planned

The useful frame is modes, not outfits: flight, thermal, active, and dinner. That keeps the bag light and the mornings obvious.

Flight night + arrival

Keep the first 12 hours easy

Thermal days

Furnas wants dark swim gear

Active and scenic days

Enough for crater loops, not a thru-hike

Dinner and hotel life

Simple polish beats overpacking

Custom list

Add anything this trip specifically needs

Thermal water and greenery
Packing principle

Pack to reduce morning friction.

The best packing system makes it hard to get the trip wrong: one bag for movement, one pile for thermal days, one clean dinner path, and almost no outfit drama.

Tiny reminders

The details that save the day

  • Check Ferraria's low-tide windowThe west day is better when you time the ocean hot spring instead of just showing up hopeful.
  • Dark swimsuits really matterTerra Nostra and the thermal pools can stain lighter fabrics.
  • Wednesday lunch should be bookedCozido is better when it is inevitable, not opportunistic.
  • Set the first navigation stop before getting in the carIt lowers friction and prevents a sleepy airport start from turning messy.
  • The move-east day is the only day with real bunching riskDo less if the catamaran or lunch runs long. Furnas is not improved by arriving frazzled.
