Azores · Travel execution layer

Travel Workflow

This is the operational version of the trip: what to pack, how to eat, where the driving time really goes, what still needs to be reserved, and where to drop the memories after the fact.

20–27 AUG 2026 São Miguel only Kyle + Marissa Planning → execution → archive

Run the trip like a system

The planning pages decide the shape. This page handles the real-world execution: pre-flight prep, day-of movement, bookings still open, practical meal cadence, and post-trip asset capture.

Phase 1Prep bags, reservations, and airport handoff
Phase 2On-island routing, food rhythm, and spa timing
Phase 3Daily reset: tomorrow's bookings, weather, and fuel
Phase 4Archive photos, receipts, and favorite places after return

Execution board

Booked Flights, rental car, both hotels

Core transport and lodging are already locked. This trip can execute as-is.

Still open Cozido lunch is the only meaningful reservation gap left

Poça da Dona Beija is now booked for Tuesday at 18:30, so the Furnas finale mostly just needs the lunch path confirmed.

Booked Couples massage is locked for Wednesday at 11:00 AM

The spa anchor now carries a real time, which means the garden-and-pack version of Wednesday can stay intentionally slow.

Booked Caldeira Velha timed entry is locked for Sunday at 10:30–12:00

Reservation 332992 is paid and includes 2 adult entries plus 1 locker, so the central-day thermal anchor is fully settled.

Booked Sete Cidades kayak rental is locked for Saturday at 13:00

Futurismo booking 371519676 covers a one-hour rental for 2 people, so the west-day lake block is now an actual commitment, not just an option.

Booked Whale and dolphin watching is locked for Monday at 08:30

Futurismo booking 371524822 covers the 08:30-11:30 catamaran tour for 2 adults out of Portas do Mar, so the move-east day now starts with a real marina departure block.

Booked Poça da Dona Beija is locked for Tuesday at 18:30

Confirmation T9WAPA means the open-day loop now has a real dusk landing instead of a soft maybe.

Before departure Download maps, confirm low tide, build packing stacks

The less phone friction on island, the better the trip feels. The shared Google Maps list now covers the planned stops too.

Packing System

Pack for three modes only: airport transfer, crater-and-coast days, and Furnas thermal days. That keeps the bag small and the decisions obvious.

Carry-on logic

Flight-night essentials

  • Passports, licenses, rental confirmation, hotel confirmations
  • One change of clothes and basic toiletries in case checked luggage lags
  • Sleep kit: eye mask, headphones, charger, sweatshirt
  • Arrival kit: sunglasses, water bottle, gum, meds, sunscreen
Thermal days

Furnas pool stack

  • Dark swimsuits only for Terra Nostra and iron-rich thermal water
  • Water shoes or sandals with grip
  • Quick-dry towel if you want independence from hotel towel flows
  • Plastic or dry bag for wet gear back in the car
Dark suit Water shoes Dry bag
Active days

Hike + viewpoint stack

  • Trail shoes for Boca do Inferno and any optional waterfall loop
  • Light rain layer because São Miguel weather turns fast
  • Water + small snack for ridge or north-coast stretches
  • Hat or sunscreen for exposed viewpoints
Clothing shape

Capsule recommendation

  • 2 nicer dinner outfits each
  • 2 pool / thermal looks each
  • 2 active daytime looks each
  • 1 warm layer each for windier crater viewpoints or late evenings

Food & Meals

The goal is not over-scheduling restaurants. It is giving each day a clean food rhythm so the trip feels taken care of.

Base rhythm

Daily meal cadence

Morning
Eat where the hotel is strongest

Use hotel breakfast as the stability anchor. It lowers decision load and protects the morning start.

Midday
Lunch near the main destination

Crater village on the west day, Ribeira Grande on the Fogo day, Bar Caloura on the move-east day, a simple stop on the Nordeste loop, and Furnas / cozido on the thermal day.

Evening
One intentional dinner, one easy dinner

Not every night needs to be a find. Mix one stronger reservation night with one stay-close, low-friction night.

Execution notes

Meal-specific trip reminders

  • Arrival day: plan a forgiving lunch, then keep A Tasca as the easy first-night dinner target if the energy holds
  • Sete Cidades day: the 13:00 booked kayak slot means lunch should flex around the lake block, not compete with it
  • Move-east day: Bar Caloura at noon keeps the Caloura swim and chapel stop from bunching up
  • Tuesday’s loop works best if lunch stays flexible enough to cut back toward Furnas before the 18:30 Poça window
  • Cozido day: reserve the lunch ahead of time and let the rest of Wednesday stay loose
  • Return day: airport food should be backup only, not the main plan
Light provisioning

Small grocery run

  • Still water + sparkling water for hotel room resets
  • Fruit, protein bars, and a few salty snacks for drive days
  • Optional wine / aperitivo supplies if one night becomes room-first instead of restaurant-first
Dinner strategy

Where to keep it easy

  • Ponta Delgada nights can handle one destination dinner and one “walk until it feels right” night
  • Furnas nights should skew hotel-first because the village pace gets quieter after dark
  • Wednesday should end in-house now that the garden, packing, and spa already make the day feel complete

These are the practical numbers you want while actually traveling: airport transfer reality, drive ranges from each base, and what counts as “nearby” once the day begins.

Road reality

What the times mean

  • Most drives are manageable, but none are “zip over there” once parking, stops, and photos begin.
  • The only day with real friction risk is the Ponta Delgada → Caloura → Vila Franca → Furnas transition day.
  • Furnas is the right second base because once you get there, the thermal highlights compress nicely.
Day-before check

Three operational lookups

  • Low tide time for Ferraria before the west day
  • Timed entry windows for Caldeira Velha and Poça da Dona Beija
  • Poça confirmation T9WAPA for Tuesday at 18:30
  • Keep the Caldeira Velha receipt handy: reservation 332992, 2 adults, 1 locker
  • Keep the Sete Cidades kayak artifact handy: Futurismo booking 371519676 for Saturday at 13:00
  • Keep the whale-watch artifact handy: Futurismo booking 371524822 for Monday at 08:30 from Portas do Mar
  • Weather and visibility for Sete Cidades / Lagoa do Fogo viewpoint days
  • Marine conditions for the Monday catamaran tour in case Futurismo pushes a weather-driven change
  • Open the shared Google Maps route for the full planned-stop list: Maps link
  • Directions for the Tuesday branch you actually choose: full Nordeste loop, half-loop, or Salto do Prego add-on

On-Trip Workflow

The app becomes most useful when it supports tiny resets: one in the morning, one in the evening. That keeps tomorrow from stealing today.

Morning reset

Before leaving the room

  • Check weather + visibility for the specific route
  • Confirm any timed entries or reservations for the day
  • Pack the right stack only: hike / thermal / town
  • Open the shared Google Maps list before getting in the car if the day has multiple stops
  • Set first navigation destination before getting in the car
Evening reset

Before bed

  • Verify tomorrow’s departure shape and any booking windows
  • Refuel the car if the next day has more movement
  • Separate wet gear / dirty gear from tomorrow’s clean stack
  • Pick a few favorite photos and note where they belong later

Albums & Archive

This closes the loop. The trip should end with an organized memory system, not a camera roll pile.

Album 1 · Full trip archive

Primary photo album link goes here once the trip is complete. Use for every keeper image and short video.

Album 2 · Best-of selects

A smaller shareable cut for family or public posting if you want a tighter story.

Reference set · Receipts / bookings

Use the dedicated artifacts page as the one tap target for confirmations, receipts, and access-critical items. It now stores the Saturday Sete Cidades kayak booking, the Sunday Caldeira Velha reservation, the Monday whale-watch confirmation, and the Tuesday Poça da Dona Beija ticket PDF.
